Spondylitis

Ankylosing spondylitis is a type of arthritis that causes inflammation in the spine, mainly affecting the back. Consequently, it makes your necks, rib cage, and back stiff and painful. The risk of spondylosis increases with age. Severe neck and back pain may occur if your condition worsens.

  • There is no specific reason for this condition; however, genetic factors could be involved. People who have a gene called HLA-B27 are more likely to develop ankylosing spondylitis. Nevertheless, only some people with the gene develop the condition due to complex interactions between genetics and environmental factors.
